Retention Approach Similarities Differences
Realistic Job Previews: Vulpen (2021) explains that this approach involves giving candidates an accurate, balanced view of the job, including both its positive and negative aspects, so they can make informed decisions before accepting the position. Ø  Realistic Job Previews and Induction both aim to set clear expectations about the role, reducing future dissatisfaction (Vulpen, 2021).

Ø  Both strategies help employees understand their role and work environment.

Ø  Realistic Job Previews require upfront effort to develop and implement content that might discourage some candidates.

Ø  Induction is focused on onboarding, whereas Realistic Job Previews are more about pre-hire preparation.

Induction: An induction program introduces new hires to the company, helping them adjust by explaining the organisation’s culture, policies, and their specific role within it (Roshani, 2020). Ø  Induction and Job Enrichment both aim to engage and motivate employees by fostering a connection with the organisation (Jhajharia, 2024).

Ø  Both approaches contribute to employee retention.

Ø  Induction is typically  short-term, while Job Enrichment is a longer-term, ongoing process.

Ø   Induction is more focused on new hire integration, whereas Job Enrichment is about enhancing job responsibilities.

Job Enrichment: Job enrichment adds responsibility and opportunities for growth to a role, making the work more engaging and motivating for employees (Valier et al., 2024). Ø  Job Enrichment and Reward both aim to motivate and retain employees by providing recognition and development opportunities.

Ø   Both increase employee engagement and satisfaction.

Ø  Job Enrichment requires role redesign and added responsibilities, whereas Reward is typically external and based on financial incentives or recognition.

Ø  Job Enrichment can be resource-intensive and may not appeal to all employees (Valier et al., 2024).

Reward: Reward strategies, such as bonuses, benefits, and recognition, are designed to incentivise employees and increase their job satisfaction. Ø  Reward and Realistic Job Previews both contribute to employee satisfaction by providing clear understanding and external recognition (Cotton, 2024).

Ø  Both strategies aim to reduce turnover and increase retention.

Ø  Reward is more focused on financial recognition, whereas Realistic Job Previews is focused on managing expectations prior to employment.

Ø  Reward can be costly, while Realistic Job Previews are a low-cost strategy (Cotton & Gifford, 2022).
